There is a lot of media interest today in the recent Strathclyde Police press release; myself and Di Francis have done interviews with the BBC and STV – also for those in the area there was a piece in the Daily Mail today, they are also doing a larger piece tomorrow, as well as the Scotsman.
Just as a note, a print was found on Loch Doon three weeks ago, and two more sightings in the last three weeks at Monkton and Hurlford in Ayrshire.

Horse Injured – Ayrshire

Strathclyde Police is appealing for witnesses after a horse was badly injured near to Sundrum Holiday Park, Coylton sometime during Friday 17 July 2009.
On Friday morning the owner attended to his horses and noticed that one of them had been badly injured. He contacted a local vet who carried out an examination and concluded the injuries appeared to have been inflicted by a wild animal rather than by a human.
Police were contacted and officers have sought the expertise of several specialists who have analysed the pictures of the injuries in an effort to determine the cause. Those spoken to are of the opinion the injuries caused to the horse have most probably been made by a big cat, possibly a Puma.
Superintendent John Hazlett from Ayr Police Office is issuing a warning and appealing to residents in South Ayrshire to report any sightings to the police. He said:
“At this time after consultation with experts the evidence points to a big cat possibly a Puma having caused the injuries to the horse.
“There was a possible sighting of a large cat in the grounds of Sundrum Castle back in May, when a member of staff at the Castle reported seeing a very large cat prowling the grounds around 9am one morning. Described as sandy coloured, approximately 4’ tall and 6’ long, experts believe that this may have been a Puma sighting although this has never been confirmed and as far as we are aware, there haven’t been any sightings since.
“From what we have been told by experts, it is unlikely that a Puma would approach and present any danger to humans and would make every attempt to avoid them, however the obvious advice to members of the public is not to approach this animal but report any sightings to the Police.
“I would urge anyone who sees a large cat in the area to contact us as a matter of urgency, and I would also ask local farmers to take extra caution with their animals and to contact police if any of them are injured.
“We will continue to make enquiries in the area, and if anyone has any concerns or possible sightings, please contact Ayr Police Office on telephone number 01292 664000.”

Researcher Frank Tunbridge was handed photographs by a witness who claims she photographed a puma in Devon. He has only just now had permission to show the photographs. Unfortunately it is cropped, unclear and very pixalated.
Rick Minter explains. “Frank has got permission to show the pic of the cat on Bodmin Moor. He has had it scanned and cropped for his own web site, although the quality is poor and the original print, which other people have seen, is much clearer. The first pic of the creature on the ground, and just looking like a coat, is not on the web. Anyway, at least you can now see the gist of it. www.bigcatsintheukok.co.uk“

This photograph is on the public domain on Franks site; and is copyrighted to him. www.bigcatsintheukok.co.uk

Hello, Big Cats in Britain folks…
I’m writing you from Workaholic Productions, a television production
company based in Los Angeles. We are currently producing a special
for the Discovery Channel called “Predators of the Past”, which
focuses on the predation features and habits of extinct animals. We
are coming to London next week and are looking for interviewees who
can speak about Smilodon, Hyaenodon, and the dinosaur Deinonychus.
I’m writing your group to see if anyone might be interested and
available to discuss Smilodon on camera. Additionally, I’m writing
to see if you may have any suggestions of who I could contact for the
other featured animals, Hyaenodon and Deinonychus.
As our shoot date is rapidly approaching, I’m trying to book our
interviews ASAP. Could you please get back to me at your earliest
convenience and let me know if you might be interested/available to
interview July 22nd, and if you have any leads for the other predators?
Thank you for considering this. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Brian Bauman
